LONGVIEW TIES MARSHALL
MARSHALL - Marshall High School played its Thanksgiving game against the first town team of Longview and, though the weight odds were about 30 pounds against the High School boys, the game resulted in 0 to 0.

Marshall arranged to meet Longview High School with the understanding that two or possibly three outsiders would be used by Longview.

When the team lined up for the game there were just four High School men on the Longview team, and the other seven men were old, experienced players.

Their back field consisted of Zeigler, quarterback and captain (last year with Dallas Athletics); Swartz, fullback, who is credited with having played one time with Chicago University; Munsell, who has been playing professional baseball several years, Moore, a Longview clerk.

These four men averaged about 170 pounds, while none of the Marshall team weighed over 130.

The rest of the team were boys of possible high school age.

Marshall had a little the best of the first half and made some nice one runs. Several onside kicks failed on account of the inability of Marshall's small boys to block the heavy backs of Longview, but the half was played mostly in Longview territory.

The second half Marshall kicked off to Longview and Captain Zeigler used Munsell and Swartz, his biggest backs, in repeated attempts to smash the High School line. No other plays were attempted except to punt when the boys held them too strong.

Marshall made some nice end runs in this half and succeeded with one forward pass for 10 yards.

Longview controlled the ball mostly, however, but never succeeded in getting very close to the coveted goal. At their nearest point, the 20-yard line, Zeigler failed on his attempt to drop-kick goal and Marshall kicked out of danger, time being called with Longview in possession of the ball at about the 35-yard line.
