LONGVIEW DOMINATES MARSHALL IN SHUTOUT VICTORY
LONGVIEW - The start of the 102nd Longview-Marshall game was pushed back almost two hours by a lightning-filled storm cell on Friday.

When the game finally kicked off at 9:11 p.m., it quickly went the same direction as the previous 11 meetings.

The Lobos led 34-0 at halftime on their way to a 48-0 rout in their 12th consecutive win against the Mavericks and their largest margin of victory in series history.

Longview Sophomore quarterback Dezmond Chumley had a big night throwing the ball, running back Tory White broke several long runs and the Lobos' defense allowed just 134 yards of total offense in the win.

Chumley completed 3 of 3 passes for 58 yards and two touchdowns, all in the first half.

It didn't take long for Longview (2-1) to get on the scoreboard when White went untouched for a 37-yard score on the Lobos' first play from scrimmage.

The 5-foot-9, 175-pounder finished with 92 yards and the touchdown on just seven carries as Longview racked up 272 yards of total offense while working with a short field most of the night.

Lobos safety Corey Bartley nearly scored on Marshall's ensuing possession when he intercepted Mavericks freshman quarterback Justin Hart and returned it 37 yards to the 6. Stephon Dunn scored on a 1-yard quarterback sneak four plays later, extending the lead to 13-0 after the PAT failed.

Marshall (0-3) finished the game with just 31 yards rushing on 30 attempts, while Hart threw three interceptions. The Mavericks scored late in the first half when Hart dumped the ball to running back John Love for a 43-yard touchdown on a screen, but the play was wiped out by a holding penalty downfield and Marshall couldn't muster a score before halftime.

Chumley tossed his first varsity touchdown pass early in the second quarter on his first series of the game. White broke a 44-yard run to flip the field before Chumley found senior receiver Justinn Spady wide open for a 23-yard score, pushing the lead to 20-0.

Chumley lofted a pass into the back of the end zone and junior receiver Chris Pellum came down with it for a 25-yard score on the Lobos' next possession.

Longview made two big plays in a row to stretch its lead to 34-0 before halftime.

Lobos senior cornerback Nakia Brown picked off Hart and returned it 37 yards to the Marshall 48-yard line. Dunn hit junior receiver Dorian Leonard in stride on a go route down the sideline on the next play.

Dunn completed 2 of 6 passes for 58 yards and the touchdown.

Longview scored second-half touchdowns on JaMycal Hasty's 24-yard run and Laurent Johnson's 45-yard interception return.

The Lobos will play at Lufkin next week.
