LOBOS DOMINATE MAVERICKS ON HOME TURF, 56-7
MARSHALL - Longview hit the gas and didn't let up on Friday night.

It was 21-0 Lobos after the first quarter.

Longview, a year after Marshall snapped a 14-game losing streak to the Lobos, returned to Maverick Stadium and throttled to a 56-7 win to pull to .500 on the young season.

Kendrevian White, who made his offensive debut a year ago against the Mavericks, trucked for four rushing touchdowns, totaling 116 yards on 12 carries, all coming in the first half.

The Lobos finished with 315 yards on the ground as they improved to 1-1 on the season. Marshall, now 0-2, finished with 222 total yards.

D'Crayvan Polk added a touchdown run of one yard, finishing with 70 overall. Junior Jaquan Edwards added a fourth-quarter touchdown of one-yard, capping a 12-play, 17-yard march of all Lobo underclassmen.

Quarterback Gaylon Wiley threw his first varsity touchdown, a 23-yard strike to junior wide receiver Eric Timberlake.

Defensively, junior Jason Bush took advantage of a big hit on a Marshall receiver, pulling down the fumble and racing 10 yards to paydirt. Sophomore safety Jephaniah Lister hauled in the first Lobo interception of the 2016 season for a Lobo defense that kept the host Mavericks off the scoreboard until the 5:35 minute mark of the second quarter. In total, the Mavericks went backwards on 12 plays.

For Marshall, the Mavericks found their most traction in the hands of senior running back Cameron Haller, who rushed 14 times for 139 yards, including Marshall's lone touchdown on a 15-yard run.

Bush started his night defensively for the Lobos with a tackle for loss, followed by one from linebacker Kobe Davis for a quick Maverick three-and-out.

Wiley had an 11-yard run, bolstered by a block from fullback Trajan Bush, Polk followed with a 13-yard run and White's second carry of the night went for 16 yards as the Lobos hit the ground running, taking a quick 7-0 lead on 7-play, 56-yard game-opening march.

Marshall had two bad snaps on the ensuing possession, setting up the Lobos on the short field. White was in the end zone for the second time on a two-yard punch in for a 14-0 lead with 3:42 left in the first quarter.

Marshall, pinned at its own five, completed a pass to the flat, and, following a big hit, Bush ended up with the football and raced 10 yards to paydirt for a 21-0 lead through the first quarter.

Marshall's next possession ended with a fumble, setting up the Lobos at midfield.

Polk had a 14-yard run before Wiley hit Timberlake in the end zone for the Lobos' first passing touchdown of the season.

J'Quavian Faggans thwarted the Mavericks' next possession with a sack and the Lobos went three-and-out before a roughing the kicker penalty set up White's third score of the night - an 11-yard score set up by a 16-yard run from Sophomore fullback Jessie Anderson.

Haller had two runs of 29 yards before scoring from 15 yards away to get the Mavericks on the board with 5:35 let in the opening half.

White had a 27-yard run, Anderson followed with 15 yards and White's fourth and final touchdown of the night came on a 24-yard run for a 42-7 Longview lead at halftime.

Lister's interception at the 4:23 mark of the third quarter set up a short field with Polk making the margin 49-7 with a one-yard punch-in.

Longview chewed the clock in the fourth, marching 71 yards on 12 plays with junior Jaquan Edwards, Paul Hutchins and junior quarterbacks A'Darius Carter and Jordan Lawson. Edwards made it a 56-7 final on a one-yard score.

The Lobos host South Oak Cliff for their home opener on Friday - the final non-district tuneup before beginning District 11-6A play.
