| TYLER - Kamden Perry didn't wait long to enter the Longview record books on Friday night.
By the time that happened, the Lobo rout was already on. Perry hauled in a career-high 201 yards and two touchdowns as Longview turned in its latest big win of the season 63-14 over Tyler Lee at Earl Campbel Field at CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium. With the win, Longview heads into the season finale at 9-0 on the season and 5-0 in District 11-6A action. Lee drops to 2-7 on the season and 1-4 in district play. Perry finished with seven catches for 201 yards for Longview in the win. Needing 47 yards to break the single-season school record of 994 receiving yards, Perry hauled in a 44-yard pass late in the first quarter to break the record, setting up Longview's third score and a quick 21-0 lead. "He had another big night receiving and just did what he does all the time," Longview head coach John King said of Perry. "He made some great adjustments and some great catches. "It was typical Kamden and it's well deserving." He was just getting started on the night as he went on to haul in a pair of 43-yard touchdowns from Haynes King in the first half. Perry's 13 touchdowns ties the single-season record for touchdown receptions, set by Jaylin Brown in 2017. King finished the night 9-of-15 passing for 239 yards, eclipsing the 2,000-yard mark on the season in the process. It wasn't just all in the air for the Lobos, who finished with 392 rushing yards, led by a three-touchdown night for Anderson, who totaled 143 yards. Keilyn Williams hit paydirt twice - both coming in the first six minutes of the game on runs of 12 and 24 yards. Williams finished with 97 rushing yards on the night. Sophomore Kaden Meredith hit the 100-yard mark on the ground as well, finishing with 103 yards, including a 53-yard touchdown run. JD Williams rounded out the scoring with a 25-yard run. In total, Longview rolled up 631 yards of total offense en route to the Lobos' fourth-straight win of at least 38 points and the second-straight win of over 50 points. "I thought we jumped out and had a commanding lead and they get a couple of scores,"" King said. "We had to keep playing because they certainly did. "It was a good night for our kids but we had some mistakes that cost us, penalties being one and missed alignments and tackles being another." Lee finished with 316 total yards, 180 rushing yards and 138 passing. The Raiders found the end zone on a trick play in the second quarter. The second score came on a 12-play, 67-yard drive on the following drive. The Raiders next big scoring chance was thwarted by linebacker Ja'Vontae Writt who forced a turnover on downs inside the Lobo one-yard line. King connected with Kaden Kearbey for 36 yards on the first play of the nigh, setting up a 12-yard scoring run from Keilyn Williams. Longview's defense then forced the first of three-straight three-and-outs for the Red Raiders. Perry had catches of 11 and 16 yards, setting up Williams' second touchdown of 24 yards, a run that included three spins into the endzone. After Perry's record-setting catch, Anderson scored his first of three touchdown with a two-yard punch in. Perry's first touchdown catch made it 28-0 after the first quarter. After Lee's double-pass touchdown, King and Perry connected once again for 43 yards. Lee converted two third downs on a long scoring march, capped by a short-yardage run. JD Williams sent Longview into halftime up 42-14 on a 25-yard run off on a reverse. Anderson opened the third quarter with his second touchdown, a 12-yard run to cap a 7-play, 75-yard drive. Lee then went on the march, converting two more third downs before the Lobo defense tightened at the goal line. Writt mad the stop to force the turnover on downs with the ball inside the Lobo one-yard line. On the next play, Anderson rumbled 95 yards - the longest play of the season for Longview - all the way down to the Lee four-yard line. Two plays later, Anderson hit the trifecta on a one-yard punch-in. "Great job by our defense on that stand,"" King said. "Then Jessie pops off a big run to get us out of there. "He was tired but he deserved to get it in there for the score. Big night for him as well." Meredith capped the scoring with a 52-yard run right up the middle. With the win, Longview heads into the regular-season finale at home against Mesquite. The Lobos secured a first-round home game and it is currently projected that Temple, who dropped a 31-28 decision to Waco Midway on Friday, will visit Lobo Stadium. "The playoff scenario is set for us but what we have to play for is the outright district title and a 10-0 season," King said. "Those don't happen often and it's hard to get those. "We're within one game of doing that and that's what we're playing for next Friday." |
