NO. 200 IS A SNAP: LOBOS BEAT RED RAIDERS, 69-0
TYLER - Longview's football team couldn't have scripted a better plan for head football coach John King's 200th career head coaching victory.

The Lobos improved to 200-43 since King took over the program before the 2004 season when they produced a 69-0 road win against Tyler Legacy at CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium in the 63rd installment of the teams' football series.

Longview also improved its 2022 season record to 3-0, and will travel to rival Lufkin for next Friday's 7 p.m. District 7-5A Division I road opener at Abe Martin Stadium.

Tyler Legacy, on the other hand, dropped its season mark to 1-2, and will travel to Texarkana's Tiger Stadium at Grim Park for next Friday's 7:30 p.m. non-district road game against Texas High.

"It's 1-0 on the week," King said of his coaching milestone. "I told the guys this is a program win. My name's just on it because I'm the head coach."

"I thought it was a great performance," he added. "We did what we needed to do. We moved the ball offensively and made big plays, and defensively we got turnovers and points. Pretty convincing win. But, the dress rehearsal's over. It's real next week with district play, and we gotta go to Lufkin."

Longview forced a quick Tyler Legacy three-and-out on the opening drive of the game, and stormed down the field on 11 plays to set up Jordan Allen's six-yard touchdown pass to Alijah Johnson. That gave the Lobos an early 7-0 advantage at the 6:23 mark of the opening quarter.

Allen finished his 12-of-17 passing performance with 191 yards and a trio of touchdowns.

Tyler Legacy's next drive ended with a four-yard punt, and Longview took advantage of the great field possession on the Red Raiders' side of the field. The Lobos extended their lead to 14-0 when Taylor Tatum traveled nine yards on a touchdown run at the 1:36 mark of the first quarter.

Tatum finished the outing with 61 yards and a pair of scores on seven carries.

Longview added four scores by the 6:43 mark of the second period to grow its lead to 42-0. It started with a one-play, 34-yard drive that included Allen's touchdown pass to Jalen Hale at the 11:49 mark.

The Lobos then capitalized on back-to-back defensive stops. Their defense recovered a fumble for a touchdown at the 11:02 mark of the frame, and Billy Smith picked off a Luke Wolf pass nine seconds later for a 25-yard score.

Longview returned to an offensive approach when Tatum made the most of another run, and carried the ball 22 yards for another score with 6:43 remaining in the first half.

The Lobos were fully in control, but they weren't done scoring before halftime. They went to the air again, and Allen found Fredirick Hawkins for 76 yards between his final four completions of the first half. Their collective success began with a nine-yard connection.

Then, the quarterback-and-wide receiver duo teamed up for a 44-yard strike that flipped the field from their team's 33-yard line to the Tyler Legacy 23-yard line. A 10-yard connection was the next play to arrive, and the players eventually produced a 13-yard score with only 16 seconds remaining in the first half.

Longview received the kickoff to start the second half, and scored on what became Allen's final drive of the night. The Lobos turned to their rushing attack again, and they ultimately produced Kelvin Washington's 13-yard touchdown run at the 7:36 mark of the third quarter.

The trend continued in the fourth quarter when Jonathan Lee and Brandavion Steverson added a 12-yard score at the 5:38 and 2:06 marks of the period.
