LOBOS SKIN TIGERS TO REACH FINAL
CONROE - Dandy Dick Miller stayed in the game long enough here Saturday afternoon to turn in two beautiful touchdown runs, one of them 60 yards long, and then retired to the sidelines as the Longview Lobos whipped the Conroe Tigers, 34 to 0 and entered the final round of the Texas schoolboy playoff.

They will meet Wichita Falls next week, probably Christmas Day, for the title. The win was number 13 for the big green Wolves. But it was not the fleet Miller alone who turned the trick.

Frank LeBus, Lobo quarterback, Hardy Miller and Ray Cantrell took their turns in carrying the mail and with a baffling array of spinners and reverses tore the vaunted Conroe defense to shreds all the way through the ball game.

They scored more points against the Tigers than Conroe's 11 other foes combined were able to tally this season. The much-publicized battle between Dandy Dick and Conroe's Cam "Powder" Harrell failed to materialize for "Powder" was bottled up all afternoon. Except for brief flurries the hard-charging Lobo forwards stopped Harrell dead.

Dandy Dick opened the scoring in the first period when he took a lateral pass from LeBus and ran eight yards around end for a touchdown. The score climaxed a 53-yard drive by the Wolves the first time they got the ball. Seven plays, one a 25-yard run through a broke field by Ray Cantrell, were required for the score.

Longview added another tally in the second period when LeBus passed 20 yards to Ray Cantrell for 20 yards and the fleet halfback ran 32 more for a touchdown. In the third period, the Lobos got to rolling and made a couple more, one on a beautiful off-tackle cutback that saw Cantrell run 60 yards through a broken field without being touched.

LeBus passed 18 yards to Fambrough late in the period for the fourth touchdown.

In the fourth period, both both the Millers on the bench, young Edgar Worsham, Don Fambrough and Marvin Jordan aided LeBus in the final scoring drive. All four carried the ball, mostly on murderous thrusts at the Conroe tackles and when they got within scoring distance Fambrough crossed up the offense with an off-tackle shoot that scored from the three.

The smooth offense from the Lobos shot at Conroe was too much for Coach Joe Lagow's charges. The forward wall showed South Texas some of the greatest blocking it has seen in years, with Burandt, Richardson, Brannon, Daniel, Sullivan and Pouncey turning in great games too.

Pounce and Burandt deserve much credit for their interference smashing and their consistency in turning in the Tiger sweep plays with Harrell and Waldie on the tails of them.
