MARSHALL ELEVEN PROVES TOO FAST FOR LONGVIEW
MARSHALL - Thirty-one to nothing tells the story of Longview's waterloo on the gridiron at the city park yesterday, in the presence of one of the largest crowds ever gathered for a similar event in Marshall. The home boys staged an exhibition of the clean, action football complete with long broken field runs. The Longview boys, though outclassed from the very start showed a commendable fighting spirit in the face of defeat.

Marshall won the toss and received at the north goal. On the kickoff, Marshall carried the ball to her forty yard line where by a succession of line plunges the home boys received a first down. Adams then carried the ball twenty five yards around left end. A number of short gains were made through the line, followed by Longview's recovery of the ball when an incomplete pass was made.

Longview, now in possession of the ball on her twenty yard line, made a number of short gains through the line until Marshall tightened up and began pushing her opponents back. Captain Brown made a spectacular break through the line and downed the Longview fullback before he could move. Longview then kicked.

Marshall fumbled a line break but recovered the ball, made two completed passed and was forced to kick.

Longview recovered the ball on the eighteen yard line and made first down by five line breaks. Marshall tightened up and Longview was forced to kick.

Right here was where the fireworks were turned loose. Adams caught the elusive pigskin and made a seventy-yard run through a broken field for a touchdown.

Marshall failed to kick goal, leaving the score 6 to 0.

Marshall kicked off and Longview carried the ball to her own 40 yard line. Longview made several unsuccessful attempts to pierce Marshall's line and then resorted to a pass, but said pass, like the best laid plane of mice and men, went agley into Mason's hands.

When the whistle blew for the end of the quarter, Marshall was in possession of the ball on her opponent's forty-yard line.

Marshall carried the ball six yards in three days and then resorted to a pass. the ball went wild.

Longview made ineffectual attempts at passing and bucking the line. On the fourth down a fake kick was unsuccessful and the ball went over on Longview's 35 yard line.

Marshall made first down by two end runs and Adams carried the ball around left end for a 19-yard gain. Marshall failed to make down and the ball went over.

Longview went five yards over right tackle and then fumbled. Robertson recovering the ball on Longview's 35 yard line.

Dodd passed to Adams for a 15 yard gain and Andrews went around right end for 10 yards. Marshall carried the ball to her opponent's five yard line and then with fourth down to cover the distance, Andrews made a gain of two yards over right tackle. The quarterback then went across for the touchdown with a center rush. Marshall failed to kick goal.

Longview received a carried the ball to her 35 yard line when the referee's whistle brought the second quarter to a close.

The score sat at Marshall 12, Longview 0.

Longview received to start the second half, carrying the ball to her thirty yard line. They lost three downs in trying to break through the line and passed.

Andrews caught the pass and went five yards. Then Marshall carried the ball down the field six and seven yards per downs. Adams scored a touchdown around left end. Marshall failing to kick goal again.

Longview kicked on their next possession and Adams carried the ball 26 yards through a broke field. The third quarter ended with the ball on Longview's 30-yard line.

Score 18-0.

Dodd and Adams made first down, repeated the deed and the ball was seven yards from its rightful destination. Dodd made touchdown on a delayed cross back. Marshall connected on the kick after to increase the score to 25-0 Marshall.

At the beginning of the second half, a number of Marshall's second team men had been run in, and now most of the first team were taken off.

Longview received, carried the ball to her forty-yard line and made two passes of 20 yards each and made third down by line bucks. Marshall was penalized five yard. the ball was now within three yards of Marshall's goal, but Longview failed to put it across. Ball went over.

Marshall kicked but the ball was brought back to her 35-yard line when Longview attempted to pass which Rogers intercepted and ran 65 yards back for a touchdown.

Marshall again failed to kick and the game ended with a score of 31-0.
