IRVING TIGERS HAND LONGVIEW THIRD DEFEAT, 18-0
IRVING - Irving's undefeated Tigers unwrapped a tremendous offensive attack here Friday night to swamp the Lobos of Longview, 18-0, in a non-district encounter.

Irving posted scores in the first, second and fourth quarters to notch the win, and the Tigers defensive unit held Longview almost powerless in coming through with their fifth win of the year.

The loss leaves Longview with a 1-3-1 season record.

Irving struck first in the contest in the initial quarter when signal caller Freddie Aikens circled around end from 14 yards out to cross into pay dirt. The point after attempt failed, but Irving was in the lead, and they held it for the rest of the game.

The Tigers came back for another six pointer in the second period when Aikens connected on a 25-yard scoring pass to Joe Sherrill. Again the point after attempt failed, but Irving held a 12-0 lead at this time, and this held until intermission.

Longview came closest to scoring in the third quarter when the Lobos moved within Irving's 15 yard line. The Lobos marched to the shadows of the goal posts when Loyd Phillips intercepted a Tiger pass on the midfield stripe and returns he ball 35 yards to the 15 yard marker before being downed.

Longview couldn't move, however, and the Lobos failed to gain a first down and had to give the ball up on downs four plays later.

This was the only major scoring threat fo the entire game for Longview.

The Lobos picked up 167 yards rushing in the game, as Kenny McKinley led the charge. McKinley gained 56 yards in eight carries to lead the Lobo running attack. David Kiergan was next high with 43 yards in only four carries, and then came Moreland Rook with 24 yards in eight carries.

Longview filled the air with passes throughout the game, but the aerial attack failed to take hold. The Lobos, with Tommy Allbright doing most of the passing, connected on five of 18 attempts for a total of 47 yards.

The Tigers closed out its scoring in the final quarter when Aikens once again score, this time on a quarterback sneak from four yards out. This made the count, 18-0, and this was all the game's scoring.

Richard Bridges was the top gun for Irving as the fullback gained 134 yards on the night's work.

Irving's tremendous Lloyd Flower, really put on a show, however, as he punted the ball five times for 347 yards. This gave the punt an average of 69.4 per boot.
