LONGVIEW SLAYS REL REBELS
TYLER - Who's faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, an able to leap enemy linebackers in a single bound? Superman? The Jolly Green Giant?

Well sir, it's really neither one, for the lad referred to here is none other than Steve Judy, a classy Longview quarterback who led the Lobos to an impressive 21-0 victory over the TYler Lee Rebels before 7,500 chilled fans in Tyler's Rose Stadium.

By the time the final gun had sounded, the 172-pound senior, had lugged the ball 103 yards on 13 carries. Judy attempted 13 passes and completed five for 68 yards. And he threw for one touchdown, to end Joe Miller.

The victory was number six for the season and i was the first District 8-AAAA win for the Lobos as the district race opened here Friday night.

Longview next Friday night will play host to Marshall's Mavericks in a homecoming contest in Lobo Stadium starting at 7:30 p.m.

Longview's rodney Hill, tailback, had another fantastic night against Tyler Lee as he scored Longview's first touchdown of the night. He carried the pigskin 15 times for a net of 85 yards to be runner - up to Judy in rushing.

Formula for success: shoot for perfection and pay no heed to how well others are going. The Lobos apparently used that theory in beating Tyler Lee's Rebels here Friday night.

The Rebels were no push-over and a few of the Lobos made too many mistakes for winning football. Tailback Billy Price fumbled the ball twice in trying to field a punt. Price lost the ball once and Rodney Hill saved one of the fumbles for the Lobos. But Price was sleeping when he should have been alert.

Longview won the toss and Coach Tommy Hudspeth pitched the challenge to Rodney Hill, Steve Judy, Ray Wright, Sid Sistrunk, Ralph Blount, Mike Elder and all of them.

Not until he Lobos had it in the bag with single touchdowns in the first, second and third quarters could the Rebels really get a drive started. The top notch Lobo defense held the Rebels three times inside the 30 yard line. The first time was at the 26 yard line; the second time at the 21 and third tie at the 25.

The statistics will show that Longview gained 261 yards rushing and 68 yards passing Friday night against the Rebels.

Hudspeth's big play boys were everything as a matter of fact. Larry Gregg, Jimmy Parker, Keith Bishop, Chad Barnwell, Larry Meeks, David Cox, Larry Shanks, Mark Hill, Kenny Kimbrough, Johnny Vaughan, Richard Molpus and Roy Carver turned in an excellent job on the defense. They really saved the Lobos from being scored upon.

The Lobos took the opening kickoff and tailback hill turned on his jet fuel and within three plays had made the first down on three straight carries to the 48 of Longview from the 37. Judy elected to go to the air twice and both times failed. Then on third down Judy took the snap from center David Cox and as he stepped to his left a host of Rebels nailed him and as he was being hit the ball bounced from his arms and was recovered by Bill Johnson of Tyler Lee.

Lee took over on the Lobo 43 yard line. In three plays the Lobos didn't give an inch and on fourth down tailback Keith Thedford was forced to punt. The ball rolled into the end zone.

The Lobos took over and like clock work were on the 11 yard line of Tyler Lee. The big gainer in the drive was a 46 yard run by Judy. Judy went to the right and then looked over his left shoulder and saw light and sailed to the 19 from the 35 of Longview. It was one of Judy's better runs of the season. Four plays later the Lobos were on the 11 yard line and it was fourth down and needed two for a first. So Judy went over tot he sideline to talk Coach Hudspeth. They elected to got or a field goal. Well a bad snap from center and kicking specialist alpha Blount had to pick the ball up and Longview team was dropped for a loss of there yards back to the 14 yard line. With 5:10 left in the first quarter, Lee had stopped the Lobos.

Longview got a big break two plays later when tailback Pat Connley of Tyler Lee started around his left end and fumbled the ball on the 18 yard line of Rebels. Donnie Carroll of Longview recovered the ball for the Lobos.

Quarterback Judy attempted two passes and both failed. Then on third down Judy turned on his jet stream and sailed to the six yard line as he cut across the field. He was hit by a host of Rebels that knocked the breath out of the ace field general. He was aided to the sideline and Roy Carver came in to guide the team. On the firs play from the six Carver on a hand off to Rodney Hill plowed over right tackle for the touchdown and the Lobo fans went wild. With 4:06 left in the first quarter, the Lobos lead. Blount's kick was good and Longview had a 7-0 lead.

With only 4:05 left in the second quarter, Longview held Tyler Lee on the 26 yard line of Longview on fourth down.

Judy and Hill quickly got the machine going. From the 26 the Lobos couldn't be stopped. Jitterbug Hill gave the Lobo cheering crowd something to yell about. On the second down, he turned a couple times and went to the 44 from the 28 for a gain of 16 yards. Then Judy from the Lobo 44 hit wingback Sid Sistrunk with a 16 yard pass to the 40 of Tyler Lee.

On the 40, Judy went to the air again and the bomb landed in Hill's arms at the 25 or a gain of 15. On a pitchout from Judy to Sistrunk the talented ball carrier went to the seven yard line for a gain of 18. Hill on the next try was caught for a loss of one back to the eight. Judy caught the Rebels half asleep and sailed a bomb into the arms of end Joe Miller for the second touchdown of the night. The pass was good for eight yards and with only 33 seconds left the Lobos had a 13-0 lead. Blount came through again with his educated toe and aded the extra point, 14-0.

Longview came back in the third chapter and quickly put the seven more points on the scoreboard. Ralph Blount kicked off to the Rebels and the Lee ball club just couldn't move the ball and on fourth down elected to punt. Tailback Keith Thedford punted the ball out and Billy Price took the ball on the 28 and returned it to the 42 of Longview.

On the firs play from the 42, Judy on a keeper up the middle took the ball to the 47. Then on about the same play Judy sailed up the middle of the line to the Lee 33 yard line for a gain of 25 yards. Then out of the blue, fancy stepper Hill took the hand off from Judy and turned on his speed. This time he just out ran the defensive halfback as he clicked off 23 yards and sailed into the end zone standing up for the third touchdown of the night. This was Hill's second touchdown. Blount added the extra point, 21-0.
