PLANO THWARTS LONGVIEW, 28-21
TYLER - Locked in an offensive battle for the first three quarters the Plano Wildcats were able to control the Longview Lobos in the fourth quarter and went on to take a sizzling 28-21 bi-district victory here Friday night.

As the game started Longview held Plano down on its first possession and after Plano's Tony Wallis got off only a 15 yard punt, the Lobos started from the Wildcat 46.

Coldly and methodically the "Green Machine" cranked up and made first down on three different fourth down situations as they marched in for the game's first score.

Longview's Leo McCoy went over from the one-yard line with 2:19 left in the first quarter. Tommy Thomas added the PAT to give the Lobos a 7-0 lead.

Plano ran the kickoff back to its own 28, and six plays later, Wallis strolled in from 12 yards out on a sweep around left end. Wes Hansen added the PAT to tie the score with 11:53 left in the first half.

Plano's Sammy Bickham passed to Mark Randolph for 32 yards for what was the big play in the scoring drive.

Then Longview came right back and drove for the go ahead touchdown with Lobo quarterback Steve Gaddis taking it over from a yard out for the touchdown to cap a 13-play, 74-yard drive. Thomas again added the PAT to give the Lobos a 14-7 lead with 4:49 left in the half.

Plano came right back as Thomas got a short kick on the kickoff and Plano returned it to the 50.

Eight plays later, Bickham swept left end, cut back to the middle and romped 19 yards for a touchdown. Hansen added the PAT and knotted the score at 14-14, with 1:59 left in the half.

Longview received the second half kickoff to gain only five yards in three plays and had to punt and Wallis returned the punt to the Lobo 36. Five plays later Bickham caught the Lobos off guard as he scored on a six yard quarterback sneak. Hansen added the PAT to give Plano a 21-14 lead with 6:49 left in the third quarter.

Longview wasted no time as the Lobos took the kickoff and drove 80 yards in 16 plays with McCoy scoring from one yard out for the touchdown. Thomas added the PAT that knotted the score at 21 all with 11:58 left in the game.

Then Plano came right back to score the winning touchdown as the Wildcats drove 62 yards in nine plays with Wallis scoring from eight yards out on an off tackle smash. Hansen added the PAT to give the Wildcat a 28-21 lead with 8:12 left in the game. Plano held on for the victory.

Gaddis could complete only 3 of 11 passes for 58 yards and he had one intercepted at the end of the game to kill the last Lobo scoring chance.

McCoy led the Lobos in rushing with 67 yards in 24 carries but Wallis led all rushers with 77 yards in 13 carries.

What possibly hurt the Lobos the most was the pin-point passing of Wildcat quarterback Bickham, who hit on six of 10 passes for 116 yards.

Longview finishes at 9-2 while Plano ran its record to 11-0 and will face Bryan in regional competition next week.
