LONGVIEW RIPS RED RAIDERS, 29-11
LONGVIEW - It wasn't the typical hard-fought Longview-Tyler Lee grudge match. And the Lobos couldn't be happier about it.

Racking up 376 total yards, the Lobos whipped the Red Raiders 29-11 Friday night at Lobo Stadium in the District 13-AAAAA opener for both.

With the win, the Lobos get a leg up on half district opponents in this first week of loop action. Their overall record stands at 3-1. Tyler Lee falls to 0-4 and 0-1 in district.

The victory did come in typical Longview fashion, with the ground attack rambling with 289 yards and accounting for all four Lobo touchdowns.

Still, the Lobos also showed signs of a revived passing game, with Eric Harris completing 5 of 10 for 75 yards and Johnny Smith adding one for 12 more.

Junior tailback Joe Johnson carried the ball just five times, but he made the most of his efforts.

Johnson piled up 64 yards while contributing a pair of Lobo touchdowns in the second quarter. His best came on a 50-yard run with 3:17 showing on the clock before half. The 6'1, 190-pounder was also true on a 5-yarder a few minutes earlier.

Fullback Victor Crane got into the action late in the contest, giving Longview the game's final touchdown on a 20-yard fourth-quarter score. He went for 31 yards on just three carries.

Longview punt returner Leon Hendrix came through with the game's most electrifying moment in the third quarter, chasing down a punt over his head at the Lobo 8-yard line, then scooting down the right sideline, almost untouched, for a 92-yard touchdown.

More than a few Lobo rushers handled the ball on the night, and Charles Smith was the best of the rest, going for 38 yards on five totes. Also contributing to the Lobo ground attack was fullback Clifford Powell, carrying eight times for 27, Harris kept four times for 26 and Drain added 17.

Kicker Steve Blaschke got the Lobos on the board in the opening period with a 24-yard field goal. Tyler Lee's Wes Hare answered with a 24-yarder of his own in the second as the Red Raiders capitalized on a Longview fumble to even the score.

Powell lost the ball on the Lobo 5-yard line, and Tyler Lee's Gregg Mitchell managed to get possession of the ball just before it slid out of bounds.

Red Raider Mac Davis, who picked up 55 yards on 16 carries, moved the ball ahead to the Longview three on second down after picking up nothing on first down. Then defenders Enos Brown and Keith Seigh converged on Hare, pushing him back to the eight on Lee's third try.

From there Tyler Lee settled for Hare's game-tying field goal.

In the final quarter, the Red Raiders again came up with a Lobo miscue after a punted ball touched a Lobo blocker and was recovered deep in Longview territory at the line.

Lee's LaCraig McKeller lost a yard on the next play, then Davis banged his way for seven yards to the three.

On third down, Davis went off tackle and gave Lee its second touchdown of the young season.

The two-point try was good on a pass from Hare to Moore making the score 22-11 with 10:54 left in the game.
