LEE BATTLES LOBOS TO 10-10 TIE
LONGVIEW - Longview gave Tyler Lee numerous of opportunities to win Friday night at Lobo Stadium before settling for a 10-10 tie.

Call it an U-G-L-Y tie. It also spoiled ninth-ranked Longview's Homecoming celebration.

The tie drops the Lobos' District 15-5A mark to 2-0-1, and 6-1-1 overall. Lee improves to 0-2-1 and 2-5-1.

Red Raider kicker Lee Whitus missed two potential game-wining field goals in the fourth quarter, from 34 and 46 yards. Lee was aided by a Lobo fumble and a partially blocked punt.

Longview needed a couple of stout defensive plays to put the pressure on Lee and Whitus.

Linebacker Kendric Nichols turned the ball back over on downs, stopping the Red Raiders on fourth-and-one at his own 32 with 2:10 to play. Dante Roberts, a Sophomore just moved up from the JV, made a crucial stop on third and four at the 16, from where Whitus was wide to the left with 7:44 to play.

Lee got the ball back at the 1:09 mark as Darren Danielson's punt was partially blocked at the Lobo 29. But four plays later, Whitus's long-range boot fell well host of the crossbar.

Lee had did the score on a 21-yard pass from Jason Nash to Taylor Goodman with 4:08 remaining in the third. Nash was 8 of 13 for 131 yards, with Dewayne King catching five for 75.

The Red Raider 8-play, 78-yard drive was keyed by clutch 40-yard Nash-to-King connection after a holding penalty had pinned Lee back at its own seven.

Longview struggled offensively only 33 total yards in the second half, and 154 for the game.

L.V. Fite was the leading grounder gainer for the Lobos with 49 on 16 carries. Cory Hutchings' 14-yard run was the longest from scrimmage.

Fite scored on a short 3-yard run and Danielson kicked a 38-yard field goal as the Lobos rallied for 10 second quarter points.

Longview trailed after one quarter, 3-0, as Whitus converted a 32-yarder with 5:29 showing. The Red Raiders had taken their opening possession and driven 42 yards in 10 plays.

Longview was held in check on its opening two series.

The Lobos' first scoring march began at their own 35 after Lee turned the ball over on downs Fite, who carried on seven plays, completed the 12-play, 65-yard series with 6:32 remaining.

After the Lobo defense stiffened on the Red Raiders' next possession, the Lobos marched 38 yards in 11 plays.

However, an illegal block on a pass play from Hutchings to Dyvortiq Dixon that would have given Longview a first down at the 8-yard line stymied the march. Danielson made his kick with nine showing before halftime.

Longview travels to John Tyler, a 30-20 winner over Lufkin, next Friday night, while Tyler Lee plays host to Nacogdoches, which upset Marshall 45-17, in a Saturday afternoon contest at Rose Stadium.
